Afik Group’s Deep Commitment to Charity and Aid

The charity work conducted by Afik Group is a reflection of Yaacov Afik’s vision to provide essential aid and leave a lasting and meaningful legacy. Mr. Afik has long understood the great position his company affords him, from which he is able to provide assistance in everything from disaster relief to animal welfare. As well as the support Afik Group is committed to in the here and now, Mr. Afik aims to inspire others to take up meaningful causes in kind.

Here we mark the achievements of the "AFIK for the Community" initiatives and bring awareness to the wide impact aid can have in North Cyprus and beyond.

Afik Group’s Charitable Legacy (So Far)

A philosophy of giving has been at the core of Afik Group since its foundation. For 30 years they have worked to make a difference when and where it matters, focusing on not limiting the scope of their efforts. From disaster relief and aid to dedicated long-term donations to help improve the lives of animals without a home, there is a simple underlying rule. Help where you can, it doesn’t matter where.

Where They Have Made a Difference

Beach Cleanup: On Friday, 18 July 2025, the Afik team organized a beach clean up day. Yaacov Afik always showed staunch commitment to placing community at the heart of every project, which was the inspiration for this and many other events. North Cyprus’ beaches and shoreline are an integral part of the country’s identity and beauty. Minimizing the long-term human impact on the environment is essential.

Blood Donation: Caesar Resort hosted a blood drive on Friday, 27 June 2025, in collaboration with the TRNC Red Crescent. Caring residents gathered and made contributions toward blood banks that play a pivotal role in saving lives. Giving in this way allows a community to proactively support those in need of medical assistance, which provides peace of mind and inspires a sense of unity.

Encouraging & Supporting Youth Creativity: Also in June 2025, an event in Girne took place through joint efforts between Afik Group, SOS Children’s Village, and Eastern Mediterranean University. Children had the opportunity to exhibit their artwork, take part in short live performances for guests, and enjoy a delightful dinner. The event reflected Yaacov Afik’s belief that supporting the education and creative growth of youths is the foundation for meaningful change. 

Community Support During Meaningful Times: As part of Afik Group’s community support efforts in Northern Cyprus, a Bayram food donation was organized across Yeni Iskele, Tatlisu, Esentepe, and Aygün. Members of the management team, Yaacov Afik, Özkan Karağaç, and Oğuz Karağaç participated in the delivery of meat packages to families and individuals in need during Eid al-Adha.

Bayram (Eid al-Adha): In June of 2025, the Afik Group initiated a program to conduct regular or scheduled charity events that contribute to those in need. Afik Donations will be on a constant lookout for communities or people who could use a helping hand. The first event brought the Afik family to Iskele Merkez Cami, a mosque where they were warmly welcomed by the esteemed Imam of the Iskele Province.

In the spirit of Bayram (Eid al-Adha), Afik Group donated 200 kg of food to the mosque so that it may reach those who need it most within the region.

Elderly Care: With a passion to ensure people can age with dignity and in comfort, Afik Group has funded critical renovations to elderly care facilities.

These include

-       A full renovation of Güzelyurt Elderly Care Home, including installation of air conditioning.

-       Renovations on Sınırüstü Elderly Care Home with a focus on enhancing safety and comfort for residents.

-       Funded construction of a winter garden at Maltepe Retirement Home (Istanbul) to offer a serene and functional space for residents during colder months.

Community Infrastructure Development programs are ongoing to support the growth of infrastructure, strengthen local economies and improve the quality of life for residents.

Completed projects include

-       Road Asphalt Construction

-       Bathroom and restroom renovations at Esentepe Police Station

-       Restoration at Hz. Ömer Tekkesi

-       Provision of storage and cabinetry facilities at the Land Registry Office

-       Provision of construction materials and organization of labor force for the Larnaka Gençlerbirliği Business Center

-       Two consecutive years of support for local sports and youth development at Larnaka Youth Union Sports Club

Charities Change the World by Changing Lives

A good charity’s reach and influence is practically immeasurable. Helping those in need – whether it be in the wake of a sudden disaster, unfortunate circumstances, or improving conditions in which people work and live – is the core of charitable causes and a worthy calling all its own. However, the less visible effects charitable work has on individuals and communities can last long into the future.

For many at the helm of such enterprises, including Yaacov Afik, the hope is that the direct changes they are instrumental in manifesting will inspire others to ensure those changes, and the vision behind them, are everlasting.

This is where charities can step in with specialized systems of support. From donations of food and supplies to healthcare and housing, charities can change the world.

-       Championing Social Justice: Where there exists inequality or a need for change, charities can advocate for marginalized communities or those without a voice.

-       Economic Impact: Beyond the changes they directly influence, charities create jobs and bolster local economies. Furthermore, the training and education they provide can set up participants for better jobs in the future.

Charity is Hope Brought to Life

Hope can often come across as wishful thinking. Life’s challenges often force us to leave hope at the wayside. But we’ve all felt it at one time or another, the yearning for better times when things are bad, or the vision for greatness when there is an unclear road ahead.

That is how charities change things in ways that other entities cannot, they shine a light on a once shrouded future. They create a path where there was once only confusion and desperation.
